More Canadian Routes will be Compatible with GM's Super Cruise System

Last summer, General Motors announced that its hands-free driver assistance system, Super Cruise, will triple the size of its road network. This extension will give users of this system 56,000 more kilometers of compatible roads.

Super Cruise features
GM's Super Cruise system is the industry's first hands-free driver assistance system that can be used on highways. This driver assistance feature includes on-demand and automatic lane change, adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance system that manages braking, among other things. With advanced technologies like cameras and sensors, the driving experience is optimized and the vehicle is guaranteed to stay centered in the lane without the driver having to touch the wheel.

A significant enlargement
GM also confirmed that vehicles produced later this year, including the Cadillac Lyriq, will roll out of the factory already with the feature built-in. On the other hand, models that already have the Super Cruise system such as the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and the Cadillac Escalade will receive a software update remotely.
Super Cruise chief engineer Mario Maiorana said, "GM will add Super Cruise to more vehicles and on more roads, so as many drivers as possible can experience it."
Currently Super Cruise users have access to 24,000 kilometers of compatible routes and the update will give access to 80,000 kilometers of compatible routes, more than triple. Note that the majority of the expansion will take place on parts of the Trans-Canada Highway and a few adjacent roads.
