CELEBRATING WOMEN IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY!

On March 8, we celebrated International Women's Day. To follow up on this important day and continue to celebrate women, we're shining the spotlight on one of our employees who makes a positive difference at the dealership every day. It's an opportunity to celebrate her achievements, resilience and impact, while continuing to promote gender equality in the automotive industry and beyond. In that spirit, we're honored to introduce Kaitlyn Hickey, apprentice technician at Cadillac Île-Perrot, who, through a short questionnaire, sheds light on her inspiring journey and unique perspectives.

1. What inspired you to pursue a career in the automotive industry?

I've always exploited my passion for cars by working on my own vehicle in my spare time. When I graduated from the West Island Career Center in 2022, I applied to Cadillac Île-Perrot to become an apprentice technician. It was only for an internship at the time, but they decided to hire me permanently and I'm still here!

2. How could the representation of women in management and leadership positions benefit the automotive industry as a whole?

Women bring a different approach to different situations and enable us to see things from a different angle. We need more women in mechanics, we really belong!

3. Can you share a memorable success or achievement you've achieved in your career in the automotive industry?

At just 22, I'm already a third-year apprentice and I'm looking forward to a great career. I'm in my element!

4. What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the automotive industry?

Don't be put off by the physical challenges ahead. Even if we're naturally less strong than men, it's something that can be worked on and improved over time! What's more, there are tools available to help us get there faster.

5. What changes or advances do you foresee in the future of the automotive industry, particularly as regards the role of women?

I hope that more and more women will enter the industry and listen to their passion, especially in auto mechanics and detailing centers. We've got our place!
